A strong team from Southampton eliminated FA Cup champion Arsenal in the fourth round stage thanks to an own goal in the first half.
The Saints were rewarded for their attack intent in the opening period when Gabriel converted a Kyle Walker-Peters cross in the 24th minute.
It was Arsenal’s first goal in 508 minutes, as they suffered a first loss in seven games.
Southampton will face another Premier League team, Wolves, in the next round.
With their next opponents enduring a slump in the league and having struggled in their 1-0 win at Chorley out of the league on Friday, the 1976 winners will imagine their chances for further progress at Molineux.

The Saints also closed in through Che Adams, whose low, angled shot was brilliantly saved by Bernd Leno, and James Ward-Prowse, who saw his corner pitch come off the bar.
Arsenal were left without striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and midfielder Emile Smith Rowe, while another fit player, Bukayo Saka, only showed up in the second half.
Mikel Arteta’s Gunners team was tepid as a striking force for the first 45 minutes, but seemed more of a threat after the break.
However, Eddie Nketiah’s deflected shot in the 67th minute, which was superbly handled by local goalkeeper Fraser Forster, was his only notable effort.
