Mahama’s petition is a total waste of court time – Electoral Commission

The Election Commission says the petition filed by 2020 NDC presidential candidate John Dramani Mahama is based on “extreme speculation” and a true waste of court time.

The Commission explains that these speculations are based on the existence of two erroneous assumptions.

This is Mr. Mahama’s decision to keep the incorrect figure mentioned as valid votes (13,434,574) even though the correct figure is known.

The other assumption the EC says is the standard bearer’s determination to strangely allocate all of Techiman South’s votes to himself, even though he knew the actual results at the time he decided to petition.

Mahama, who lost the December 7, 2020 election to Nana Akufo-Addo, wants the results to be annulled.

She argues in her petition filed in the Supreme Court that Nana Akufo-Addo did not actually get more than 50% of the votes cast, but instead benefited from ballot padding and miscalculations.

However, the EC insists that the president’s inadvertent mistake during the declaration did not change the way Ghanaians voted on December 7.

It states that the 13,434,574 mentioned as total valid votes is an error.

Nana Akufo-Addo, according to the EC, obtained 6,730,413 which represents more than 50% of the 13,121,111 valid votes (specifically 51.295%).

These explanations are contained in the legal arguments presented by the EC pursuant to the Supreme Court’s orders that the parties to the case address the initial objection raised by the EC and Mr. Akufo-Addo that the case should be dismissed. as soon as possible.

The EC further argues in this document that the petition does not reveal how the alleged filling of votes influenced the outcome of the elections.

The EC concludes that the petition does not deserve a trial and is a total waste of the court’s time.
