Frank Lampard’s job at Chelsea may be safe for now, but the Blues are working out plans for his possible replacement, should they decide to do something. Chelsea’s mini resurgence came to an abrupt end Tuesday night when the Blues were humiliated in a 2-0 loss to Premier League leaders Leicester.
The dismal performance cast further doubts about Lampard’s future at the club and whether he is the right man to lead Chelsea back to the top.
Having spent over £ 220 million in the summer, the Blues are now under pressure to deliver from the Chelsea hierarchy.
Lampard is expected to host the next matches to turn things around with the club’s top four fading fast.
According to Kaveh Solhekol, Sky Sports’ has received information that the job is between two managers, if Lampard is fired.
FAIR IN: Chelsea star Mason Mount was right all along about the transfer of Kai Havertz
“RB Leipzig, of course second in the Bundesliga at the moment, will play Liverpool in the Champions League next month.
“According to Keith James, RB Leipzig have made it clear to Chelsea that they will not let Nagelsmann leave mid-season.
“Chelsea have relatively good relations with the Red Bull group, they signed Timo Werner from RB Leipzig and Ethan Ampadu was loaned to them as well.”
However, if Lampard is to be relieved of his duties, he will go out to fight.
He is adamant that he can cope with the pressure despite admitting that Chelsea are not ready to compete.
“I can’t get caught up in what the reaction will be because I’d be sitting here all day worrying about it,” Lampard said, following the suggestions that he’s on borrowed time.
“I am not the only coach who is under this pressure, but the good thing for me is that I am good at handling the pressure.”
Chelsea will face Luton in the FA Cup on Sunday before hosting the Wolves at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League on Wednesday.
