Lampard downplays fears that Chelsea’s job could ‘destroy’ his career

According to The Independent, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard disagrees with Brendan Rodgers regarding the impact the Stamford Bridge job can have on his career.

The Northern Irishman, now in charge of Leicester City, served as Chelsea manager in their formative years. Now a competent coach in his own right, he has done an excellent job at King Power Stadium.

Rodgers was touted as a contender for Chelsea’s hot seat following the firing of Andre Villas-Boas in 2012. The then Swansea boss distanced himself from the news, suggesting the job could turn out to be a poisoned goblet.

Nine years later, Lampard believes that Rodgers can see things in a different light. He does, however, understand where Rodgers is coming from given that he was part of the playing team back then.

“I don’t want to speak for Brendan when he said that, but I guess at that point maybe there was a change of direction, I was a player here so I understand.”

It was a particularly turbulent moment in which the Blues saw five different men take over the club in a period of 25 months.

Lampard believes that today’s team is not the one Rodgers criticized. The Blues were a real challenge at the time for the biggest trophies in the game.

The same cannot be said today as we continue to build a young core capable of taking us back to the glory days. Lampard, for his part, is willing to focus on the work ahead.

“For me, all I can do is tackle the job ahead of me.”

Lampard believes that the expectations of managing a top club like Chelsea always create pressure. Those in the hot seat will need to be able to handle it while thriving under the bomb.

“If we see that we do not reach them, then the pressure comes; that’s why we’re in this job, to be able to handle that. “

Lampard’s words are encouraging and hopefully he can turn our luck around. With the club going through a rough patch, the pressure on him increases.

Rodgers and Lampard will meet later tonight in a key match that could affect the career of the top four. Lampard has the opportunity to show Rodgers how good his team can be back in the day.

The game will also see Ben Chilwell return to King Power Stadium, just a few months after trading it for the Bridge.
