Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia has passionately called on charities to initiate pro-poor interventions to help support the vulnerable in society, including street children.

Speaking on the fifth anniversary of the Cristo Rey soup kitchen at Cristo Rey Church on Monday morning, Dr. Bawumia reminded the privileged about the reward that comes with giving to the poor and needy in society.

“The Good Lord exhorts us to take care of the poor and needy as always, Father Campbell told us, I want to do this and then we started looking for the money to do it.

“This morning, he has put a requirement of ¢ 1 million for Mother Teresa’s soup kitchen in Osu. So I ask everyone to dig deeper to make sure we start contributing, ”he said.

According to Dr. Bawumia, Mother Teresa’s soup kitchen has helped shape the lives of young children.

“These kids can only imagine what they would have been going through without these soup kitchens. Every morning they are here, they bathe, have breakfast, have lessons, have lunch and then leave and this has been for five years ”, he explained.

He also pledged about ¢ 100,000 to support the Mother Teresa soup kitchen that Father Campbell of Cristo Rey Church announced that he would build even when he retires from office in May of this year.

“I have assumed the responsibility of raising ¢ 100,000 to start as seed capital,” he said.
