AshantiGold SC took place at Len Clay Stadium to a goalless draw against Medeama SC in the Ghana Premier League on Sunday.
The entertaining and hard-fought match saw the Miners keep a clean sheet at home for the first time this season, as did the Malvas and Yellows, who also posted their second clean sheet on the road this season.
Milovan Cirkovic made three set-up changes that earned him a vital away win over the Grand Olympics in Accra last weekend, following a goal against.
Roland Amouzou replaced Frank Akoto in the starting lineup, while Yaw Annor replaced the injured Amos Addai.
Young goalkeeper Felix Clottey, who made his AshantiGold debut last week, kept his position in the starting lineup.
Samuel Boadu made two changes to his Medeama team that beat Aduana Stars 2-1 last week in Tarkwa.
Agyenim Boateng and Joseph Tetteh Zutah gave way to Richard Boadu and Ebenezer Ackahbi in the starting lineup respectively.
The absence of starting goalkeeper Eric Ofori Antwi paved the way for Frank Boateng to start in goal against his former club.
The first half was practically balanced as both teams were very cautious and failed to create significant scoring opportunities either.
The first scoring opportunity fell in Medeama’s path, but goalkeeper Clottey made a spectacular save in the one-on-one game to prevent Ackahbi from overtaking Medeama in the 53rd minute.
AshantiGold’s first attempted goal came in the 61st minute, after Hans Kwofie threw a cross from Yaw Annor, but goalkeeper Boateng saved the situation for the Mauves and Yellows.
Boateng was the hero this time, as he made a quick double stop to deflect a shot from Kwofie and another from Emmanuel Owusu with his legs in the 78th minute.
Medeama came close after breaking off a counterattack, but Ackahbi’s effort was stopped by AshantiGold goalkeeper Clottey a minute later.
Both teams tried to find the back of the net but neither of their attempts could result in a goal.
AshantiGold will travel to the capital to face Legon Cities FC on Friday, matchday 10, while Medeama will host Inter Allies FC at Tarkwa Akoon Park on Sunday.
