Arsenal ‘are interested in Barcelona goalkeeper Neto’ as Mikel Arteta looks to add competition for number 1 Bernd Leno during January transfer window.

  • Neto Murara would only leave Barcelona to compete for first team football
  • Arsenal need another goalkeeper after selling Emi Martínez to Aston Villa
  • Icelandic stopper Runar Alex Runarsson has also failed to impress the Gunners

Barcelona’s Brazilian goalkeeper Neto Murara is considering leaving the Catalan giants for Arsenal this month.

Neto, who signed for Barça from Valencia for £ 23 million in the summer of 2019, is currently the second option at the Camp Nou behind Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

However, according to Mundo Deportivo, the 31-year-old would only leave Catalonia for north London if he aspires to start with the Gunners.

Mikel Arteta’s team needs another cap to replace No.1 club Bernd Leno after Emiliano Martínez was sold to Aston Villa over the summer, and young Icelandic goalkeeper Runar Alex Runarsson failed to impress in cup competitions this season.

It is believed that a loan agreement would be suitable for all parties, as it would allow Barcelona to reduce their salary expense, while also allowing Arsenal to strengthen their team.

The move would also give Neto a chance to compete with Leno for the number 1 jersey at the Emirates.

In his first season at Camp Nou, the Brazilian goalkeeper had only five appearances in all competitions.

However, he has already played nine games this season, six of which have been in LaLiga.

Neto made his international debut for Brazil in 2019 in a 5-0 win over El Salvador, his only appearance for his national team to date.

He is ready to be on the bench for the final of the Spanish Super Cup on Saturday between Barcelona and Athletic Bilbao.

Meanwhile, Arsenal’s next game is a home game against Newcastle on Monday night.
