Chelsea Bans Training Celebrations To Help Fight Coronavirus
According to the Evening Standard, Chelsea have decided to ban celebrations from their training sessions.
This comes after Premier League clubs were ordered to reduce physical contact between players to stop the spread of the coronavirus. This also includes preventing players from celebrating in matches.
Chelsea manager Frank Lampard recently defended the players, citing the difficulties they face in ensuring that games go ahead despite restrictions. (h / t Sky Sports)
“We practice social distancing as much as we can on the training ground.”
However, he admitted that the club will have to institute the new regulations. Lampard admits that steps have been taken to ensure players are as safe as possible in training.
“It’s something that I’m going to pass on to the players and now they will see a lot of these group hugs when they win a five a side, so that will be something we will see.”
While it is not possible to completely eliminate contact in a sport like soccer, teams have tried to do their best. As role models, players will have to do their part for the greater good.
Easy goals?
Lampard also added that footballers should not be the subject of charges that cannot be imposed elsewhere. While you are in favor of reporting wrongdoing, you shouldn’t become a scapegoat.
“These have been really tough times for everyone and certainly not only footballers have made mistakes.”
Lampard also expressed doubts about suggestions that referees should be instructed to reserve anyone who does not comply with the latest guidelines.
Soccer is an emotional game, and sometimes a dramatic moment can evoke feelings of excitement that can take precedence. While it can be difficult to completely eradicate the excitement of the game, players and clubs must do what they can. After all, most of them already are.

Chelsea temporarily closed its Cobham Academy training center earlier this week due to a Covid-19 outbreak at the facility.
Fortunately, the senior team, the academy, and the women’s teams were kept in separate bubbles. This would at least prevent the virus from spreading to all teams in the club. (h / t Daily Mail)
