Ghanaian club Asante Kotoko said it had officially written to the African Football Confederation (CAF) to protest alleged anomalies in its members’ COVID-19 results ahead of the Champions League preliminary round second leg against him. Al Hilal from Sudan.

Al Hilal held a narrow lead over Asante Kotoko after a 1-0 away win last month.

The match between the two teams on Wednesday was canceled and the Ghanaian club claimed it had received “dubious” results alleging that seven of its players and four officials had tested positive for COVID-19.

The club added that the result of another of its players had not been presented and therefore was unable to raise the minimum number of players for the match.

“We made an official complaint to the Party Commissioner registering our greatest suspicion with the results; because the players and officials who allegedly tested positive had their results typed as a letter, “Asante Kotoko said in a statement.

“The supposed doubtful positive results had many suspicious characteristics indicating the fact that they did not reflect reality on a true and adequate medical basis.”

Asante Kotoko, a two-time winner of the competition, further claimed that the COVID-19 results had been provided by “known Al Hilal officials,” but the positive results showed striking differences with the negative ones.

The club assured its supporters that it will follow all legitimate avenues to “make sure the right thing is done.”

The winner of the game will advance to the group stage of this season’s competition.
