Tamale Central MP Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed accused Defense Minister Dominic Aduna Bingab Nitiwul of deploying the military amid a chaotic scene early Wednesday morning.
Talking to JoyNews After the House suspended the session before the presidential inauguration, Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed emphatically stated that Dominic Nitiwul made a call to invite military officers to the House of Parliament.
“I know for a fact and I told him when he was making the call, I told him that it was not necessary, I told him that it would be a blur on the integrity of this House.”
His comment comes after security personnel stormed Parliament following the commotions during the inauguration of the VIII Parliament of the Fourth Republic.
Military and police officers, who were heavily armed officers and dressed in full garb, marched to the floor of Parliament to restore calm after some elected MPs from the NDC side disrupted the electoral process for a new president of the Camera.
Murtala Mohammed argued that the presence of military and police personnel in Parliament was dangerous and unacceptable.
He said the unprecedented behavior of the military in the history of Ghana’s democratic regime calls for an investigation.
He said the deputies should understand the motive behind the invitation from the security officers.
“I will urge a proper investigation into the matter of who invited military officers to Parliament and the reasons behind that … I don’t think that’s acceptable as well.”
