A Hohoe High Court will hear today Wednesday, January 6, a case against the elected deputy of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the electoral district of Buem, Mr. Kofi Adams, and the Election Commission by about 13 residents of Santrokofi, Akpafu, Lolobi and Likpe. (SALL) enclave in the Oti Region.
The petitioners have sued Mr. Adams and the EC for excluding them from the December 7 parliamentary elections, which they described as illegal and a violation of their voting rights.
Among them are Stephen Brempong, Wing Commander (rtd) Emmanuel Kusi Apietu, Johnson Addo, Titus Ayivor, Fuseini Abdul-Rahman and others.
Ghana’s news agency can confirm that the lawsuit is among today’s list of cases with a strong team of lawyers for petitioners and defendants patiently awaiting the start of the proceedings.
Therefore, they seek a “perpetual court order that prohibits Mr. Kofi Adams from standing for or being sworn in as an elected deputy for Buem.”
The petitioners are also seeking the cancellation of the December 7 parliamentary elections organized by the EC in the circumscription, and have requested that a new one be held to include the 13 electoral areas that allow them to cast their vote.
Kofi Adams was declared an elected MP for the Buem constituency by the EC after obtaining a total of 18,560 of the valid votes cast to defeat Lawrence Kwame Aziale of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who garnered 6,854 votes.
