Paris Saint-Germain has scrapped the idea of its players receiving gold-plated phones as a reward for winning the Ligue 1 title.
PSG has been crowned Ligue 1 champion by default after the French football season was canceled.
Jewelry company iDesign Gold posted on social media that they would send every PSG player a 24-karat gold iPhone case worth 400 euros each for winning the league title.
“[iDesign Gold] have usurped the club name to advertise by making it appear that the [first] the team’s players had requested their services to produce these cases, “PSG said in a statement.
“[The rewards] go against the club’s values. “
IDesign Gold manager Joaquín Calderón gave his side of the story to the Spanish radio station Cadena Cope.
“I cannot say the figure that was spent, but the PSG asked us for 29 cases,” he said.
“It was somewhat organized between Thiago Silva and one of my associates Benjamin Lyons.”
