Atlético de Madrid continued their goal-scoring habit at the end of this season in their 2-1 win over Alavés on Sunday. Luis Suárez scored a winning goal in the 90th minute for the visitors at Mendizorroza.
That particular goal saw Atlético move on their own as the most productive side of LaLiga Santander in the final stages.
Before the weekend’s games, Real Madrid, Athletic Club and Sevilla joined Los Rojiblancos in eight goals in the last 15 minutes of this campaign’s games. Suarez scored his ninth.
The Uruguayan is particularly powerful in the later stages of the games, with Sunday’s goal his fourth in the final 15 minutes of games this season.
Those four goals have come against Granada (twice) and Real Betis, as well as Alavés. Almost half of his nine goals for Atlético have come after the 76th minute.
The other late goals of Atlético have come from Yannick Carrasco against Celta de Vigo (minute 90), Lucas Torreira against Osasuna (minute 88), Joao Félix against Cádiz (minute 90), own goal by Toni Lato for Valencia (minute 79) and Diego Costa against Elche (minute 80).
In fact, 20 of Atlético’s 29 goals in LaLiga Santander have come in the second half of matches. Real Madrid are next best after the break with 17 goals, while Barcelona come back with 14.
