Manchester City have returned an additional Covid-19 result, just 24 hours before the clash with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon.
The latest positive result, which the Sun says comes from Friday’s testing round, brings the total number of positive cases among players and staff members to eight.
However, the Sun clarifies through a club spokesperson that the last positive test is that of a player from the club’s Elite Development Squad and he has not had contact with members of the first team for the last ten days.
Manchester City remain confident that their game against Chelsea on Sunday will go ahead, despite another postponement from Fulham on Saturday. After further testing on Saturday, Pep Guardiola’s team is expected to receive their latest results on Sunday morning.
According to a Sun report, a club spokesperson said: “The Manchester City Covid-19 bubble underwent testing on Friday and a result has returned as positive from a player outside of the immediate first team roster.. “
“The player has not had contact with the first team in the last ten days. “
“Everyone in the city continues to wish a speedy recovery to all of our colleagues who remain in self-isolation after their positive tests.. “
The EDS player will join Kyle Walker, Gabriel Jesus, Tommy Doyle and Ederson, plus an additional player from the first team, in isolation until they return a negative result.
