The Arsenal defender will sign a new long-term contract with the club after impressing this season, according to reports.

The 25-year-old, signed from Bolton for £ 2 million in 2016, has been forced to take a regular spot in the first team this season as part of Mikel Arteta’s shaky four spots.

And, despite reports linking it to a loan moving this month, The Telegraph claims Holding will stay in the Emirates and avoid the expected mass carnage.

Holding is believed to have been targeted by various Premier League clubs with a view to signing him temporarily, but the center-back is now more likely to stay and fight for his place.

Having made 17 appearances in all competitions so far this period, Holding has become a key member of the Arteta team.

His current contract still has two seasons left, but an extension appears to be looming.

Newcastle was among the parties that registered an interest in Holding in the summer, although a possible deal for the former Bury loan could not materialize.

The Telegraph also believes that Steve Bruce is still looking for short-term changes during the winter window, but has ruled out Holding going to St James’ Park.

Holding started – and gained attention – in Arsenal’s recent back-to-back victories over Chelsea and Brighton.

He is likely to continue to have many opportunities in the first team due to Arteta’s impending ax.

The club’s head coach wants a sizable exodus to help reduce his ranks and several defenders may soon be fired.

Sead Kolasinac has joined struggling Schalke in the Bundesliga in Arsenal’s first outing this month, and Shkodran Mustafi, Calum Chambers and Sokratis Papastathopoulos are also believed to be on the cutting board.

William Saliba’s future is also unclear, as the summer signing has yet to show up for the first team.
