Parliament announces “ strictly by invitation ” program to invest president-elect

The Parliament of Ghana has announced a program outlining the activities to dissolve the 7th Parliament and inaugurate the 8th, as well as to inaugurate the President-elect, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Activities are strictly by invitation, according to a press release issued by Director of Public Affairs Kate Addo.

According to the statement, the current Seventh Parliament of the IV Republic of Ghana will dissolve at midnight on January 6, 2021.

Before that, however, President Akufo-Addo will deliver the final State of the Nation address on Tuesday, January 5, at 10 a.m. before the House.

Then, “at 12:01 am on January 7, the elected members of the 8th Parliament will meet in the House of Parliament to elect a president and two vice-presidents, in accordance with articles 95, 96 and 100 (2) of the 1992 Constitution, after which the elected members of the 8th Parliament will be sworn in by the Speaker of the House of Parliament in accordance with article 100 (1) of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana.

“The president-elect shall be sworn in by the 8th Parliament in accordance with article 57 (3) of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana.

“The media and the general public should note that attendance at these events is strictly by invitation. All COVID-19 prevention and safety protocols will be strictly adhered to, ”the press release warned.
