The Accra 4th Circuit Court, for the second time this week, postponed the case of the alleged shooting by a National Security operative at the Ablekuma Central Collation Center during the recently concluded general election, until January 5, 2021 .

The suspect, Collins Quarcoo, also known as Kola, was prosecuted for allegedly shooting Pius Asiedu Kwanin, a journalist from the online portal Newswatch Ghana, in the leg, and injuring others at the Ablekuma Central Collation Center on 8 from December.

The suspect, Collins Quarcoo, also known as Kola, pleaded not guilty to all six counts of causing unlawful harm when he first appeared in court on December 17, 2020.

He was later denied bail.

Since the suspect’s first appearance in court, the case has so far been postponed five times, largely due to the inability of the presiding judge, Emmanuel Essandoh, to appear in court due to health problems.

The prosecutor in the case, Inspector Eric Pobee, spoke to the media about what happened in court.

“When the case was adjourned to 29th December, unfortunately, the judge was not present. So the case was postponed until today [December 31, 2020]. Today, when we arrived, they told us that the judge is indisposed, so the court postponed it to January 5, 2021. We hope that on that day, we will all come and then we will see the way forward.

The suspect is in police custody. He was taken into police custody and is obeying terms. The case is now here [Accra Circuit Court 4] so we just started the case. We haven’t even gotten into the case; we have not started the test. It is normal. If it hadn’t been the judge’s condition, we should have progressed, but hopefully, I know that God willing, things will be in order.

The case will now be heard on Tuesday, January 5, 2021.

While the victim, Pius Asiedu Kwanin, was released from the hospital, he is expected to return for a medical check-up on January 5, 2021.
