Everton infuriates as Manchester City return to training days after postponing Goodison Park clash – Ghana Latest Football News, Live Score, Results

Everton was enraged on Wednesday when Manchester City was given the go-ahead to return to training, just two days after the teams’ clash in the Premier League was postponed due to positive Covid-19 tests in the City.

Pep Guardiola’s team showed up to the City Football Academy for emergency testing on Tuesday after five players and at least two staff members contracted the virus.

All of those results were negative on Wednesday afternoon and the team trained thereafter. The site will be partially reopened.

Guardiola’s team is scheduled to face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday and the news that there is no further positive evidence raises the possibility of that game continuing.

But Everton are in awe of how the situation has been handled, specifically the lack of communication from Liga and City.

The Toffees have yet to hear a full explanation from the League as to why the game was canceled despite the City having the necessary 14 healthy players available.

Everton will fully sympathize with their City counterparts if it is confirmed that the outbreak was so severe that there was no chance the game could go ahead. But this latest development has increased his determination to get to the bottom of the matter.

The city will have more tests today and Saturday and said those results “will inform and dictate the next steps.”

Gabriel Jesus and Kyle Walker have been self-isolating for the past week following positive tests announced on Christmas Day, and three other players contracted the virus in the days after.

They fear that members of their squad contracted the Covid-19 mutant variant, emanating from London, during their Carabao Cup win at Arsenal last week. Gunners defender Gabriel has also tested positive.

“Safety remains our number one priority, and the club will continue to act with great caution,” a city statement read.

‘The first team’s training buildings have undergone a deep cleaning over the last 48 hours, and most of these facilities will remain closed, with only essential operations around training resumed.

“The bubble will undergo further testing in the coming days, the results of which will inform and dictate the next steps.”

A statement from the Premier League read: ‘In consultation with the Premier League, Manchester City’s first-team team resumed training today in preparation for their match at Chelsea on Sunday.

Training was resumed after confirmation that there have been no new positive cases after further tests were conducted on Tuesday.

‘The Premier League continues to have full confidence in its Covid-19 protocols and in being able to continue playing our matches as scheduled. Manchester City’s postponed match against Everton will be reorganized in due course. “
