Agusti Benedito is one of the candidates to take the presidency of Barcelona when elections are held in January and he wants Lionel Messi to stay.
However, he is not confident that the Argentine will stay at the Camp Nou after the expiration of his contract in the summer.
“We should have a franchise player and Messi is the best in the world,” he said.
“He loves Barcelona and there is no one better than him for this role.
“After seeing your interview with Jordi Evole, I am pessimistic [about his future].
“I would have preferred him to say he would stay. That would be the best news.”
Benedito went on to outline some of the other projects that he wants to oversee if he wins the election.
“The first thing I would do is call Monchi and convince him to come to Barcelona,” Benedito said.
“We would pressure him to come and join us, although I am realistic.
“Ronald Koeman has my support. He’s just started and we have to trust him.
“For me, he is a coach of the best three. He is a coach who knows the club and is brave, playing with young players.”
