Ghana’s coach CK Akonnor has revealed that he visited Asante Kotoko’s dressing room during halftime to motivate the players during the CAF Champions League clash against Al Hilal in Accra.
Kotoko succumbed 1-0 to the Sudanese team at Accra Sports Stadium last week and now faces elimination from top-tier competition.
And Akonnor, who is a former Kotoko coach, thought that his presence would have had an effect on the team’s production, but it didn’t.
“It was very difficult for me, but I thought it was prudent for Kotoko to represent Ghana, so if I show my face, the players could be motivated to see the head coach of the Black Stars,” he told Kumasi. Kessben FM.
“I entered the locker room with a reason, and that was to motivate the boys to play with everything to get a good result before the second leg.
“In addition, my presence could have helped the players to carry out a performance that allows them to be called up in the senior team.”
“All in all, as a former coach of the team, it became very necessary for me to show my sincere and genuine support.”
Kotoko will be greeted by the Sudanese for the second leg of the preliminary round on January 5 at Omdurman.
