Police are investigating the deaths of two people whose bodies were found in a septic tank in Amasaman, near Accra.

A third person, Felix Azilagbeto, who was recovered along with the two deceased: Ebenezer Boye Nartey, 35, and Samuel Oko Ayitey, 39, at the residence of one, Kwame Ayamba, is currently receiving treatment at a hospital.

The Deputy Superintendent of Police, Effia Tenge, head of the Public Affairs Unit of the Command, informed the GNA that on December 26, 2020, at approximately 08:30 a.m., the Police received information on the death of the two who allegedly tried to vacate a sewer for one Ayamba.

He said investigations revealed that on the same day, the complainant hired the services of one Ebenezer Boye Nartey, operator of a septic tank vehicle, to evacuate the waste from his septic tank.

DSP Tenge said that Nartey, after dislodging the debris, decided to enter the tank that was about 15 feet deep to investigate the cause of a leak he had observed.

She said Nartey, however, screamed for help after entering the tank and passed out.

“Ayitey, who also entered the sewer to help Nartey, suffered a similar fate,” said the Police, adding that a third person, Felix Azilagbetor, had a rope tied around his waist and entered the sewer to remove the two but it also happened and they rushed him out and sent him to Kamet Hospital for treatment.

DSP Tenge said the deceased bodies were later recovered with the help of officials from the National Organization for Disaster Management and the Fire Service.

He said Azilagbetor was responding to treatment while the two bodies had been deposited in the police hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.
