A 36-year-old businessman who allegedly defrauded a GH accountant? 15,000 on the pretext of getting him a community gold mining permit and certificate has appeared in Kaneshie District Court.
Wisdom Adzoma, accused of defrauding with deception and possessing a forged document, has pleaded not guilty.
The court chaired by Ms Ama Adomako Kwakye admitted Adzoma free on bail for the sum of 20,000 GH with two bonds.
The defendant is expected to reappear on February 1, 2021.
The prosecutor, Police Inspector John Baidoo, said the complainant, Achelles Addo, resided in Lashibi while the defendant resided in Doblo, near Amasaman.
Inspector Baidoo said that on January 23 this year, the complainant met with Adzoma at the Alisa Hotel in Accra and during their conversation, the accused introduced himself to the complainant as a small-scale miner and is currently working with the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal minery. and that could help you get the community mining documents.
The prosecution said that the complainant, who was planning to participate in community mining, was convinced and decided to give it a try.
Inspector Baidoo said that the defendant collected an amount of GH £ 20,000 from the complainant and subsequently collected an amount of GH £ 15,000 to acquire the necessary documents for community mining for the complainant within four days.
“The accused person after having managed to take the money from the complainant, did not fulfill his promises and all the efforts made by the complainant to get the accused to take the document or recover their money was useless,” said the prosecution.
According to the Prosecutor’s Office, on February 17 of this year, the complainant called the accused to inform him that he had an unspecified sum of money to deliver to the accused to expedite the process.
He said that the defendant agreed and met with the complainant at the Hotel Alisa and delivered a copy of the Environmental Permit (Community Gold Mining Certificate) and the Community Mining Permit to the complainant.
The Prosecutor added that the complainant made his search and inquiries and realized that the documents were false.
Adzoma, according to the prosecution, was arrested and in his precautionary statement, he mentioned an Ofori as his source, but he did not help the Police to arrest said Ofori or help police investigations.
