Fans react on Twitter as Chelsea ace Edouard Mendy balances the good with the bad against Aston Villa

Edouard Mendy continues to make headlines painting Chelsea plugs in low light.

The Senegalese goalkeeper got off to a good start when he stopped a goal effort by Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish.

He went on to make a correct hash of a cross that Matty Cash, thankfully, shot. While his distribution of the ball was spot on, it’s fair to say that he could have done a lot better to stop Anwar Al Ghazi’s draw.

He was caught once again when El Ghazi struck the bow from afar. Fortunately for Mendy and Chelsea, the ball hit the crossbar and went out.

Veteran forward Olivier Giroud appeared to be the hero on the night when Frank Lampard’s Chelsea entered the break with a goal for him.

The Blues entered the game after three losses in four Premier League games. With the gulf between us and league leaders Liverpool widening, there was even talk that Lampard’s job was at stake.

Having lost another two points, Lampard will not have escaped the crosshairs that has him firmly in its sights.

Meanwhile, fans weren’t happy with Mendy, who they compared to former No. 1 Kepa Arrizabalaga. Several of them took to Twitter to lament the goalkeeper’s mistake.

Mendy is by no means a bad goalkeeper. However, given what fans have endured with Kepa in recent months, the margin error given to the summer signing might not be too generous.
