The Democratic National Congress (NDC) in Navrongo has said it will not sit and watch as some people within the New Patriotic Party (PNP) in the area discredit the hard work they put into securing a victory that saw them snatch the parliamentary seat and win. the presidential position in the general elections of December 7.

The NDC said it had come to their attention that some people within the PNP at a recently convened press conference mentioned that incumbent Member of Parliament Joseph Kofi Adda made huge cash donations and campaigned on behalf of the NDC. and his parliamentary candidate who helped his victory.

He said the allegations were not true and are a figment of the NPP’s imagination, as it did not benefit from any cash or campaign support from Adda. He said the accusations were unfounded and urged the public to throw them at the dogs.

In a statement signed by the constituency scribe, Dr. Selanwiah S. Abdul-Mumin, in response to the allegations, the NDC maintained that it experienced an election win due to the fact that its candidate, Sampson Tangombu Chiragia, was distinguished credibly throughout the campaign period.

The statement said their candidate identified with the people and demonstrated beyond a reasonable doubt that he was determined to build Navrongo through the unity and strength that earned him the trust of the voters.

The NDC emphasized that they won the elections by hard work and campaigned with the savings of the parliamentary candidate and the contributions of friends, supporters and faithful of the party, and not with the support of anyone like Joseph Kofi Adda.

The NDC statement in portions read: “It has come to the attention of the NDC in the central constituency of Navrongo through a press conference of some area election coordinators, polling station executives and New Patriotic Party loyalists who the NDC and its parliamentary candidate – Hon. Sampson Tangombu Chiragia benefited from the great support of the current Member of Parliament, H.E. Joseph Kofi Adda, including a large cash donation. We would have treated him with the contempt he deserves, but due to some unsuspecting and gullible people who can fall for these spurious and political shenanigans, we need to set the record straight.

“First of all, we would like to state unequivocally that these accusations are absurd, ridiculous and ridiculous; they are not based on facts. This nefarious and sinful label is the product of his own imagination; it is based on guesswork and innuendo. To set the record straight, the NDC and its parliamentary candidate have not received a penny from the Hon. Joseph Kofi Adda and anyone with evidence to the contrary should be ready to go public.

The respected Member of Parliament has never been a part of the many campaign teams and activities of the Democratic National Congress during the campaign season.

“The campaign activities of the NDC were financed with the savings of the parliamentary candidate and the contributions of friends, supporters and faithful of the party.

“The unprecedented victory of the NDC and its parliamentary candidate in the constituency was due to multi-faceted variables. Our candidate, Hon. Sampson Tangombu Chiragia had credibly distinguished himself during the campaign period. He demonstrated beyond a reasonable doubt that he is willing to build Navrongo through unity and strength. He indicated that he knew people and people knew him; he identified favorably with people and was that “local guy” that everyone wanted to associate with, including many PNP supporters.

The NDC went on to claim that the accusations were being spread to save the heads of some notable figures within the PNP who failed to repair the cracks in the party. He warned the PNP to desist from involving the NDC in its internal disputes.

“The campaign activities of the NDC were financed with the savings of the parliamentary candidate and the contributions of friends, supporters and faithful of the party.

If the supposed “large cash donation” could win the election, then H.E. Tangoba Abayage would have been the winner of this election. The extravagance and opulence of the Hon. Tangoba was visible in every part of the constituency. People were forced to choose loans, whether they needed it or not. Loans were made without applying and paid through the mobile money payment system. The treats, including pickup vehicles and motorcycles, were shared with impunity. Clearly, on Special Voting Day and Election Day, potential voters were asked to vote for H.E. Tangoba and take a snapshot for an amount ranging from Ghc 300 to Ghc 100.

“We can understand that all these baseless accusations are orchestrated to save the heads of some key personalities within Hon. Tangoba’s camp who regrettably failed as guarantors of duty to maintain unity in the party. However, we would like them to keep the formidable and indomitable NDC out of their internal party squabbles.

The unprecedented victory of the NDC and its parliamentary candidate in the constituency was due to multi-faceted variables.

It is ridiculous to associate his excruciating defeat with Hon. Joseph Kofi Adda when Hon. Tangoba performed abysmally in the backyards of the constituency president, constituency vice president, municipal chief executive, constituency treasurer, and candidate’s home MP – Hon. Tangoba where you cast your vote. NDC won with a landslide at all polling stations in Namolo, Adabayire, Nogsenia. Cumulatively, the NDC won in Pungu and even performed credibly in Nimbasenia to the admiration of all.

It is also ridiculous and twisted logic to claim in his shaky press conference that H.E. Joseph Kofi Adda supported all the opposition candidates: the PPP candidate and the NDC candidate. If he really supported a different candidate with the sole mission of causing the defeat of the Hon. Tangoba, then, should have channeled all his arsenals to one of the Candidates and not to two Opposition Candidates simultaneously ”.

The defeat of the Hon. Tangoba was due to the leadership crisis within the PNP in the constituency and the lack of a well-planned strategy for the 2020 general election. Key personalities played the role of party infantryman and serial callers rather than acting as leaders. While the NDC candidate and his team were on the ground selling the People’s Manifesto message, the NPP candidate and his team were on Facebook “killing.” While the NPP candidate focused on women, the NDC focused on all at Navrongo.

As much as we would be grateful if the NPP remained in opposition forever, we would need them to stand together to offer us constructive criticism so that we can better provide the necessary development at Navrongo. As such, we urge you to sit down and take a sober reflection of the gigantic defeat and enact solutions to disunity and fragmentation within your party so that you can offer us strong opposition in 2024 even though the NDC’s victory is imminent.
