Cape Coast North Member of Parliament (MP) Barbara Asher Ayisi says that while losing the seat was initially painful, defeat will help her learn, grow and mature.
The deputy of the New Patriotic Party (PNP), who lost to Dr. Kwamina Minta-Nyarko of the Democratic National Congress, in the December 7 elections, said that although no one disputes an election with the intention of losing, their loss offers them the opportunity to reflect on what went wrong and fix any problems.
Ms. Ayisi was speaking at Victory Bible Church International (VBCI) Cape Coast Family Shrine on Sunday.
She was emphatic in that she had made history during her tenure by offering immense help and support to many of her constituents who needed her help.
She also expressed gratitude to people for believing in her and giving her the opportunity to serve.
Speaking about the elections, Ms. Ayisi expressed her satisfaction that President Akufo-Addo won massively in her constituency, an indication that people had confidence in the president and the party.
Bishop Richard Ampadu Duku, the senior pastor of the VBCI Family Shrine, encouraged the MP to be firm and never give up, but continue to chart a better course for girls in the Region and beyond.
“Let’s work together to design a role model project that prepares younger girls to take on leadership positions,” she said.
Bishop Duku urged the deputy to pursue her goal of being a good role model for constituents as God continues to use her to glorify himself.
Ms Ayisi, whose term as MP ends on January 6, 2021, narrowly lost to Dr Minta-Nyarkoh in polls in which she obtained 21,642 votes to 22,972 for her opponent.
