A sheriff in Hohoe has allegedly been tortured by men suspected of being supporters of Energy Minister John Peter Amewu, who is also an elected deputy from the Hohoe constituency.

He said he and another colleague had gone to Wli Todzi in Hohoe Township to deliver a court document to the minister who was attending a victory party when some men boarded him and took him off the premises in a black V8 vehicle.

According to Emmanuel Aziaka, the victim was transferred to an area between Fodome Agbesia and Fodome Torganu and there he was tortured.

He claimed that his mobile phone, money and court documents that he was supposed to give to Mr. Amewu had been collected from him.

Mr. Aziaka said Citi News he believes that Mr. Amewu was aware of what happened to him.

“Mr. Amewu lowered the glass of his car when they attacked me and raised it back up,” he said.

He said that he has reported the matter to the Police who have assured him that the matter will be investigated.

Meanwhile, an aide to Amewu, Joshua Homenya, has said that the Amewu camp knows nothing about the incident.

Background

A Ho High Court, presided over by Judge George Buadi, recently granted an interim injunction preventing the Election Commission from appointing John Peter Amewu as a deputy for the Hohoe constituency.

The court order is also to prevent Mr. Amewu from running as a member of Parliament for the electoral district.

This was after Tsatsu Tsikata argued an ex parte application in court on behalf of the applicants who hail from Santrokofi Akpafu Likpe and Lolobi, cities that were prevented from voting in the December 7, 2020 parliamentary elections under the district Hohoe electoral as constituted. low IQ 95.

Peter Amewu won the parliamentary elections in Hohoe after the four cities, namely Santrokofi, Akpafu, Lolobi and Likpe, were separated from the Hohoe constituency to be included in the newly created Oti region.
