Professor Emmanuel Kwesi Aning, Director of the Faculty of Academic Affairs and Research at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Center (KAIPTC) has described corruption as a business that unites society in Ghana.

According to him, without corruption, “the building we call the Ghana company will collapse.”

Speaking in the Joy News news archive, monitored by GhanaWeb, Professor Aning claimed that the types of corruption in Ghanaian society are due to how attractive it is to people’s morale and how the country’s laws are randomly applied .

He said: “Corruption is [a] multi-million dollar business ”.

Professor Kwesi Aning further indicated that the scenarios linked to corruption [have] not properly identified because the issue of corruption is not well understood

He explained that until corruption is accepted as a social chancre, it will always be seen that the corrupt practices in reference are minimal.

“… We are not looking at the networks that support it, we are not looking at the levels of collusion, we are not looking at the way in which the rules that must be applied first in identification, [and] investigating, and refunds are being applied well.

“Until we understand this as acceptability, that corruption is a canker and is contributing to our inability to live a proper life, then the little [corrupt acts] with which people are committed, we would say that it is a small corruption. [But] corruption is corruption, ”emphasized Prof. Aning.

For Professor Aning, “corruption transcends religious beliefs, political affiliation, old-school networks, ethnicity” and adds that public perception plays a fundamental role and until we begin to connect the dots and find all the links missing, corrupt practices will continue.

Professor Aning participated in an annual event review.
