Zabzugu NPP challenges NDC to re-collate parliamentary results openly

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Zabzugu constituency in the northern region is challenging the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to openly collect Zabzugu’s parliamentary results if they believe they won that seat.

They accused the NDC of sleeping at work instead of keeping an eye on classified pink sheets when the Election Commission (EC) in Zabzugu deferred the declaration and moved to the EC regional office where the results were declared.

The EC, on December 8, postponed the declaration of the results of the electoral district of Zabazugu after a fight between the agents of the NDC and the NPP over the results of some polling stations during the collation.

This forced the EC in Zabzugu to forward the results to Tamale, where the results were reported, but since the statement, the NDC has accused the EC of giving inaccurate results and is demanding a new collection.

NDC supporters held a protest last week to demand the reinstatement. But at a press conference, PNP constituency secretary Imoro Hudu said it was his duty to dispel misinformation that something adverse happened when the Zabzugu constituency parliamentary and presidential results were announced at the regional collection center. .

He questioned where the NDC party agents were when the results were compiled, adding that while the NPP agents maintained surveillance at the regional collation center until the end of the process, the NDC agents, on the other hand, left and thus therefore, they cannot turn around and blame the EC. for his own lack of interest in the process.

Imoro Hudu accused the NDC of showing incompetence when it comes to election-related matters, indicating that his deputy-elect, Jabaah John Bennam, won the parliamentary elections convincingly with a vote margin of 2,949.

He also accused the NDC candidate, Alhassan Umar Abaako, of refusing to sign the parliamentary summary every time he loses an election, citing 2012 as an example. Hudu said that the NDC has lost credibility when it comes to gathering results.

Imoro said it was ironic that the NDC has no problem with Savelugu’s results that were declared for similar reasons, but has problems with Zabzugu’s.

He said that regulation 37 of CI 127 is clear about the appointment of counting agents and the counting of votes and therefore asked the NDC to stop the antics of defeat from creating a state of insecurity in the electoral district. .
