Former Mahama Ayariga former government information minister Mahama Ayariga said the leader and standard bearer of the Democratic National Congress, John Dramani Mahama, has been delayed in selecting a candidate for the party.
According to the former Minister of Information, his former boss should have already designated a standard-bearer.
“He has had a long time. He was chosen as the leader of the opposition a long time ago, so he has had enough time to decide who his running mate is,” he told Evans Mensah on PM Express.
Curiosity has been caused by who will be the NDC’s running mate as the party has been silent on the matter.
In early May, a press release signed by Party Secretary General Johnson Asiedu Nketia refuted claims that a standard-bearer has been nominated for the party.
The Democratic National Congress (NDC) said the reports on the candidate list for the 2020 general election were false.
Mr. Asiedu Nketia said that he had not issued any statement or had it published. [his] favor.
Therefore, he urged that such publications be disregarded.
Former President John Dramani Mahama, earlier, in March also reacted to such news.
He accessed his Twitter page to debunk reports that he has decided on Eric Aspofo member of Parliament South Eric Opoku as his candidate for the 2020 elections.
However, Ayariga, who believes the delay may be the result of the Covid-19 outbreak, says the flag bearer should have already made the selection.
“I cannot explain why he has not announced his running mate so far,” he told Evan Mensah on PM Express.
