Premier League matches without the presence of fans look like blueprints of each other and resemble training sessions, Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic told the Belgrade daily Vecernje Novosti on Friday.

No fans were allowed to watch games when the league resumed in June after closing in March due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Up to 2,000 fans have been allowed to attend this month’s matches in some areas of the country, but a resurgence in COVID-19 cases means Liverpool and Everton are the only Premier League clubs that will be able to host fans as of Saturday.

“It all comes down to having matches that look like carbon copies of each other, that resemble training sessions without fans in stadiums,” Matic said.

“ The coronavirus pandemic has made circumstances very different and I’m sure Liverpool would never have lost to Aston Villa 7-2 if the fans had been around.

“Soccer has survived, the league is on the move, but I really miss the noise and reaction from the stands.”

Serbian Matic said that winning the league title with United would be a dream come true after lifting the trophy twice with Chelsea in 2015 and 2017.

“It would certainly amount to making another dream come true after winning two titles at Chelsea,” he said.

“If we had a slice of good fortune and won the Premier League title, we would be on par with what I achieved at Chelsea. I am in good shape and I hope to continue playing at the highest level for another four or five years ”.

United, which has not won the Premier League since 2013 in Alex Ferguson’s last season in charge, is third in the standings with 26 points from 13 games, five behind leaders Liverpool with one game less.

United will visit second-place Leicester City on Boxing Day, with the Foxes one point ahead of them for playing one more game.
