Arsenal defender Sead Kolasinac appeared to be close to an exit from Emirates Stadium in the latest transfer window, as several clubs were linked to his services.
The Gunners man was said to be on the radar of players like Italian Roma and German duo Bayer Leverkusen and Schalke, as well as West Ham of the Premier League.
In the end, the window was slammed shut with Kolasinac remaining at Arsenal, but he hasn’t exactly been kicked since then, with few competitive and distant minutes apart.
Admittedly, this was partly due to bad luck, as he was ruled out for several games after testing positive for Covid while on international service with Bosnia and Herzegovina in November.
However, Kolasinac did not have much playing time prior to that date, he was unable to make a part of numerous Premier League matchday teams, and against Everton he was once again named to the bench.
The 27-year-old has been restricted to minutes in cup competitions and had a chance to impress when he was named to the starting eleven against Manchester City in the League Cup quarter-finals.
However, he was flattered to cheat in a dismal display during which he showed little defensive awareness, such as when his fellow defenders were pushing up to play offside, and he did not react.
At the other end, Kolasinac had a clear opening to get the ball into Folarin Balogun’s path, which could have put him on goal, but he hesitated and eventually passed Emile Smith Rowe aside, the attack was broken.
Mikel Arteta may have chosen to give the £ 100,000-a-week man a shot at cup competitions this season, but given how much he fought stiff opposition, he has surely now decided that he needs to move him in January. ?
