The Western Region branch of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has said it would not be intimidated by security agencies in its resolution to protest the election results declared by the EC.
Western Region NDC Communication Director Richard Kirk Mensah, during a peaceful demonstration in Axim, said that NDC members have every right to protest peacefully despite the determination of security agencies to silence them.
According to him, such intimidation will not be tolerated.
“The results clearly indicate that we have won that parliamentary seat, but because of this military intimidation, they want to declare it themselves. Even at Techiman South, there has been no proper collation and the NPP is all over the place saying they have won. We’re saying they should bring their pink skeets and the EC should bring their checked figure too, so we all sat down and compared. In Banda, for example, he declared for the NDC. NPP requested a new compilation which the NDC accepted and did. ”
“So what prevents the EC from doing the same for Techiman South? This is unacceptable. We can never speak of peace without doing the right thing and we will continue to resist any form of oppressive government. In our fourth Republic, we all said that we were not interested in military interference and that is why we supported it and accepted the 1992 constitution ”. NDC Disagreements with 2020 Results
The Electoral Commission (EC) announced president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as the winner of the December 7 election on Wednesday December 9, 2020, despite concerns raised by the opposition NDC.
The NDC presidential candidate, Mr. John Dramani Mahama, later declared the party’s unwillingness to accept the result of the general election.
Describing the result as the “actual stolen verdict”, Mr. Mahama at a press conference on Thursday, December 10, 2020, said that the party will audit the results of the poll to inform its next step.
The party has embarked on a series of street protests across the country to express its discontent.
