Majority Leader in Parliament, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, apologized to Member of Parliament (MP) for Fomena, Andrew Asiamah.

Talking to JoyNews’ Evans Mensah on Wednesday’s PM Express indicated that the party has regretted having expelled the Formena deputy for a personal decision he made.

This, he said, “the party has eaten a humble pie by extension of the reasoning that comes to me.”

Before December 7, Asiamah was expelled from the ruling New Patriotic Party (PNP) following his decision not to contest Fomena’s seat on the party’s list.

According to him, his decision to go solo was influenced by the unfair treatment he faced in the primaries when he lost.

On the ruling party’s side, Andrew Amoako Asiamah had lost his membership because of his action and that was reason enough to remove him from the House in accordance with article 97 (1) (g) of the 1992 Constitution.

“For the avoidance of doubt, Article 97 (1) (g) of the Constitution states that: A member of Parliament will vacate his seat in Parliament if he leaves the party of which he was a member at the time of his election to Parliament to join to another party or seek to remain in Parliament as an independent member, ”the PNP said in a statement.

However, at the end of the polls, Asiamah was declared by the EC as the elected deputy for the Formena constituency after having obtained 12,805 votes.

In response to a question from presenter Evans Mensah on whether he regrets the expulsion, he indicated that “if the party regrets it and I am part of the party then I am sorry too.

Mensah-Bonsu, reiterated that the PNP had misjudged the measure, but “if the party has now made the decision to relax, it affects me.”
