The parliamentary results of the Hohoe constituency have already been published by the Electoral Commission (EC), Energy Minister John Peter Amewu has revealed.
The minister, who was declared the winner of the parliamentary elections held in the Hohoe constituency on December 7, 2020, made this known in a Facebook post on Thursday, December 24, 2020.
Mr. Amewu wrote: “Hohoe electoral district parliamentary results duly declared and published on Tuesday 22 December 2020 by the EC.”
“John-Peter Amewu, Deputy Elect from Hohoe Constituency”.
It also included on its page the alleged copy of the results published by the EC, dated Tuesday, December 22, 2020.
The High Court of Ho, on Wednesday, December 23, 2020, granted an interim injunction to prevent the Election Commission (EC) from declaring Mr. Amewu as an elected deputy for Hohoe in the Volta region.
The interim injunction issued by the court, presided over by Judge George Buadi, followed an ex parte request from eligible voters in the newly created Guan district.
The plaintiffs also prayed to the court to prevent Mr. Amewu from standing for swearing in as an area deputy or from standing as such.
Eligible voters, who reside in the newly created districts, which include Santrofi, Akpafu, Likpe and Lolobi, were unable to vote in the December 7 parliamentary elections.
As a result of the creation of the Oti Region and the subsequent creation of the Guan District which includes Santrokofi, Akpafu, Lolobi and Likpe (SALL), the Ghana Election Commission gave a directive that the people of SALL should not vote in the parliament. Election in Hohoe constituency on Dec. 7 ”.
Amewu obtained 26,952 votes to beat the main opposition of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Margaret Kweku, who obtained 21,821 votes.
Meanwhile, the EC has revealed that it will begin the process of creating a new constituency in Guan district when Parliament begins in 2021.
