The Electoral Commission (EC) has said that matters related to requests for election results under the law will require legal action to address them.
A Commission source told the Ghana News Agency in an interview that the Commission’s doors were opened for inclusive dialogue with stakeholders, but not on issues related to demands for results.
The EC source said that once the results were declared, any person or group in trouble had to go to court to obtain redress.
“We have an open door policy. After the elections, we have met with some stakeholders, including the Peace Council.
“All we need is for us to be informed well in advance. We are an agency of the State, but not for ourselves ”.
A statement issued by the Commission’s Public Affairs Unit and copied to the Ghana News Agency said that the Commission would be on rest from December 23, 2020 to January 19, 2021.
However, he stated that the Electoral Commission’s senior leadership and key operational staff would continue to work during the recess to engage key stakeholders in fulfilling their mandate.
The statement said the decision followed the successful conduct of the 2020 general elections and was aimed at “promoting efficiency while reducing personnel and administrative costs.
“Following the successful conduct of the 2020 elections, all the Electoral Commission field staff in the 275 Districts and 16 Regional Capitals, having worked tirelessly throughout the year despite COVID 19, have been given a well-deserved rest.” .
