Eden Hazard will return to Real Madrid soon and, although the injuries are frustrating, the Madridistas must keep the faith.
Real Madrid left winger Eden Hazard gave the team a brief glimpse of his superstar power this season between injuries. The Whites came back 2-0 to salvage a point against Borussia Monchengladbach in the Champions League, with Hazard playing a leading role from the bench in his first appearance of the season.
And then that weekend, Hazard opened the scoring with a bolt from beyond the box to give Real an advantage that they would give up to in what ended with a 4-1 win over Huesca. Similarly, Hazard was excellent in both Champions League victories over Inter Milan.
Since losing to Shakhtar Donetsk, Real Madrid have won five straight games as they prepare to face Granada on Wednesday night at the Alfredo Di Stefano Stadium. They have won each of those matches without Hazard, thanks to the elite play of Luka Modric, Toni Kroos and Karim Benzema, who is back in top form. Lucas Vázquez was also a pleasant surprise in attack.
Vinicius Junior had his ups and downs, but he played well last week against Athletic Bilbao. And with Vini dealing with illness over the weekend, Rodrygo Goes stepped forward as a starter down the left, producing a world-class assist in the first six minutes of the game for Benzema.
However, there is no danger of replacement. Vinicius and Rodrygo may be world class one day, and Rodrygo appears to be the one most likely to be “the future” on the wing for Real Madrid. However, at present, even Rodrygo, who is more advanced than most U21 players, has not yet reached that level.
Hazard is a cut above the rest. He brings a different level of class to Real Madrid with his unstoppable dribbling ability, his great knowledge of the ball and his ability to lead the attack and put others at stake. As we saw against Huesca, his magic of scoring goals out of nowhere is unlike anyone else in La Liga, aside from enemy number 1 Lionel Messi, of course.
He is the superstar player for Real. For years, Hazard tortured Premier League defenses with his provocative runs, labyrinthine dribbles and accomplished finishes. On an international stage, surely we are all familiar with Hazard’s ability to lead Belgium and shine in the spotlight and pressure. That is important at Real Madrid and Hazard can do it. You just need to be healthy.

As we approach 2021, it’s easy to be doubtful, skeptical, or done with questions about Hazard’s health. However, don’t give up. When Hazard is on the field, Real is indisputably better. So imagine how good Los Blancos can be in the thick of the Champions League knockout stages and the round-trip title race with Atlético Madrid when Hazard on the team and his teammates are playing at THIS level.
Hazard is the key for Zinedine Zidane’s Real Madrid to play as the dominant force we expected.
