Street corners and road intersections in Ghana’s capital Accra are being improved ahead of the yuletide.

The shoulders and curbs of the main streets were painted, the lawns were carefully cut and decorated with Christmas lights, a few days before the celebrations.

The Ghana News Agency (GNA) also saw contemporary art and paintings, murals on smooth surfaces, fishing boats and vintage vehicles placed at strategic points that give the city an attractive look.

The GNA concluded that Jandel Limited is doing the “disguise” in collaboration with the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) to make Accra a “city of art”.

Mr. Gilbert Ankrah, AMA Public Relations Officer, said the initiative is part of the Assembly’s vision for Accra to become a city of “art and style”.

“WADA has a vision to make Accra a city of art and creativity where young people can bring out the best in their creativity, so when Jandel Limited presented this vision, we decided it was the right partnership,” he said.

Ankrah said that the entire beautification project was also incorporated to make Accra a clean city, adding that they would also clean the metropolis before the yuletide.

He said the Assembly was committed to making Christmas exciting and safe, and said he would soon be meeting with stakeholders in Metropolis on how to make Christmas 2020 memorable.

He said security arrangements had been made to ensure that locals and visitors / tourists conduct their activities safely and “peacefully before, during and after the celebrations.”

Meanwhile, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, in his 20th address to the nation on how to contain the spread of COVID-19, urged citizens to strictly observe COVID-19 security protocols during the holiday.

He advised the population to celebrate in open spaces and observe social distancing while wearing face masks to slow the spread of the virus.
