The story of Fuseini Yusuf is both heartbreaking and mind-blowing. The 51-year-old visually impaired father of five children between the ages of 5 and 13.

Children suffer from mental and speech disorders, according to a Starr News report.

The Akyem New Tafo resident in the eastern Abuakwa North Township, like many visually impaired Ghanaians, begs for survival.

Before leaving each morning, Fuseini chains the children to keep them out of trouble and have the peace of mind of concentrating on his job as a beggar.

Fuseini’s wife reportedly left him in 2014 when she became aware of their children’s disturbing conditions, leaving the visually impaired father with the Herculean responsibility of being single parents.

“… My wife … left us after some people in the community advised her, so she finally gave up the marriage and left me and the five children,” Fuseini told Starr News Eastern regional correspondent Kojo Ansah.

Fuseini was forced to quit his job as a shoemaker due to blindness. He took to the streets to beg to fend for himself and the children.

“One of my sons is now angry and is now wandering the bus station, but his insanity is of the mild kind that can be easily cured if little medication and attention is given,” said the distraught father.
