Zinedine Zidane’s Real Madrid have chained five consecutive victories now, leaving behind their early season problems.
His recent results have been courtesy of a select group of untouchable players who, among them, account for 93.6 percent of the minutes the Whites have played this season.
The Frenchman has had a very specific group of players, from whom he has already squeezed everything: Thibaut Courtois, Raphael Varane, Ferland Mendy, Toni Kroos, Karim Benzema, Lucas Vázquez, Luka Modric, Sergio Ramos, Casemiro, Vinicius Junior, Dani Carvajal and Rodrygo Goes are Zidane’s men.
Of them, five have played every minute of the last five games. Courtois, Varane, Mendy, Kroos and Benzema have not even been substituted and have 450 minutes of the last five. They have not disappointed their coach.
Courtois saved Real Madrid with a great save against Athletic Club, Mendy has secured his place ahead of Marcelo, Varane has returned to his best level, Kroos is back in control of the midfield and Benzema is enjoying the best form of his career with five goals out of five.
Behind them are other reliable players. Lucas Vázquez looked reborn, and was only substituted once in this streak, totaling 435 of the 450 possible minutes.
Modric is seventh in the list with the most minutes of the last five games, having retired in the 88th minute against Atlético and in the 72nd against Eibar.
Sergio Ramos has not played as much as he would have hoped, but only due to injury against Sevilla. He has played every minute of subsequent games. Casemiro, similarly, only lost to Athletic by suspension, which means they both have 360 minutes.
Then come the 306 minutes of Vinicius and the 259 of Dani Carvajal. To complete the list, Rodrygo arrives with 238 minutes.
Luka Jovic, Eden Hazard, Mariano Díaz and Martin Odegaard have stayed on the periphery due to injuries. It has been available, but has been used sparingly, if at all.
