The Rotary Club of Accra-Labone, as part of its 20th anniversary activities, will renovate the second phase of the children’s ward at Nsawam Government Hospital in 2021 to help improve the delivery of health services in the community.
The project valued at GH ¢ 55,000 would focus on the replacement of maternal beds and sheets, installation of air conditioners, general works and provision of basic hospital equipment.
The Club would also oversee the construction of a piped groundwater system in Dokrochiwa in the eastern region of Ayensuano, funded by the Rotary International USAID Water and Sanitation project at a cost of GH ¢ 591,569 cedis.
The Club, in collaboration with a private partner, would build a well for Alavanyo residents in the Ga West City Council.
Jerry Otchi, Chairman of the 20th Anniversary Planning Committee, announced it in Accra at the weekend during the launch of activities for the anniversary celebration.
The anniversary theme is: “Two Decades of Service Above Yourself: Rotary Opens Opportunities.”
Other programs aimed at the anniversary include the PAG Ralph Commemorative Public Lecture, the Dodi Princess Cruise Ride, the Beach Party, the Video Documentary, the Fundraising Event and the Dinner Dance.
Mr. Otchi, former President of the Club, said that the Club over the years has had a positive impact on society through its service project initiatives and will continue the initiative to complement the government’s socioeconomic projects.
Mr. Carlis Arko, former President of the Club, referring to its achievements, said that the Club since its Constitution in 2001, undertook some service projects in the area of maternal and child health, basic education and literacy, water and sanitation, prevention and treatment of diseases. and immunization against polio.
He said other Club projects included remodeling and furnishing the House of Refuge in Abofu-Achimota with a Club member from the United States and Canada, donating audiovisual equipment to “Reach for Recovery Ghana” to support cancer awareness in breast and construction. a well for Okineman, near Kwabenya and health examinations in some communities in the country.
Mr. Lamtiig Apanga, the former Club president who led the fundraising session, pledged GH ¢ 500 to support the Club’s development projects and encouraged other Rotarians to follow his example.
The commitment yielded a total amount of GH ¢ 7,100.
