Real Madrid held on to a nervous 3-1 win over Eibar to keep up with Atlético de Madrid at the top of the La Liga table on Sunday night.

It didn’t take long for the visitors to go ahead as Rodrygo passed the ball over the Eibar defense and Karim Benzema adjusted the pass and edged past Marko Dmitrovic to make it 1-0 in the sixth minute.

Benzema then mounted Madrid’s second goal minutes later, leaving a perfectly weighted pass for Luka Modric to fire his first shot on Dmitrovic to double Real’s lead.

Eibar cut a goal before 30 minutes after a poor Real Madrid draw landed at Kike’s feet, who finished off a beautiful overhead shot from Thibaut Courtois to make it 2-1.

Real Madrid continued to dominate possession, but Eibar were also dangerous despite the fact that neither team was able to score on decent occasions during the second half.

Lucas Vázquez added one more just before full time to reach the final score for Real Madrid.

The result keeps Real tied on points with leader Atleti, who has a higher goal difference than his city rivals in the table.
