The Porcupines Warriors responded well to their coach’s firing with three points at Dawu
Asante Kotoko has returned to winning ways in the Ghana Premier League (GPL) following a 1-0 win over Dreams FC on Sunday.
Ibrahim Imoro’s effort in the first half was enough to give the Porcupine Warriors all three points in matchday six at the Dawu Theater of Dreams.
The victory has brought the Kumasi team to seventh position in the league table.
Kotoko came into Sunday’s game under pressure after a surprising 1-0 home loss to the Grand Olympics in the middle of the week. The defeat led to the dismissal of coach Maxwell Konadu.
The 23-time GPL champions now turn their attention to the Caf Champions League, where they host Al Hilal of Sudan in the first round on Wednesday.
Elsewhere in the Premier League on Sunday, Great Olympics posted two wins in a row with a 1-0 home win over Wafa, courtesy of Gladson Awako’s effort in the 27th minute. The win has brought the Wonder Boys to third place. in the league table, but tied on points with Wafa, ranked fourth.
At Nduom Sports Stadium, Benjamin Tweneboah’s goal three minutes before the break earned Elmina Sharks a 1-0 home victory over the Inter Allies, who sit just two places above the relegation zone. Sharks are sixth on the record.
While Medeama, at 13th, and Liberty Professionals, at 10, settled for a 0-0 draw at Tarkwa, Eleven Wonders and Ashanti Gold played a 1-1 draw at Anyinase.
Ibrahim Salifu broke the deadlock for home team Karela, but Ibrahim Samed leveled for the visitors at the edge of full time. Ashanti Gold ranks fifth in the standings, three spots behind opponents of the day.
On Saturday, Manaf Gumah’s late penalty secured a 2-1 win for Hearts of Oak over King Faisal Babes. Benjamin Afutu broke the deadlock for the Phobians in the 19th minute, but Kwadwo Frimpong scored to restore parity in the 50th minute. Hearts are eighth on the table, while Faisal sits second from the bottom.
In one of the two games played on Friday, Joseph Adjei’s consolation wasn’t enough for the Legon Cities who suffered a 2-1 loss at home to Ebusua Dwarfs. The visitors benefited from a Benjamin Acquah double that condemned the Legon to their third loss in six games and left them at the end of the record.
In the second game, Benchem United moved to the top of the standings after a 2-1 win over Karela United. Listowel Amankona and Steven Owusu Kaakyire hit home for the Hunters, making little of Diawisie Taylor’s goal for Karela, who fell to second in the table.
