Edwin van der Sar believes that Manchester United has the characteristics of a team that challenges the title with two or three more signings.
English football was suspended on March 13 with United undefeated in 11 games, fifth in the Premier League, in the FA Cup quarterfinals and anything but the last eight in the Europa League.
The club had signed deals for Jack Grealish, Jadon Sancho and Jude Bellingham before the coronavirus crisis halted the season and the MEN understands that United’s intention is to try to make three signings when the next transfer window opens.
Ajax chief executive Van der Sar was regarded by United as the club’s inaugural director of football, but the Dutchman extended his contract with the Dutch champions in November.
Van der Sar won four Premier League and Champions League titles in six years of campaigning with United and is encouraged by his revival under former teammate Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
