Arsenal fell to their eighth loss of the season against Everton on Saturday, as hopes of turning their season around continue to fade.
An own goal from Rob Holding and a header from Yerry Mina were enough to give the Toffees the victory, lifting them to second place in the Premier League while Arsenal languish in 15th place, just five points above the drop zone.
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta admitted that his team “faces a big fight” on Sky Sports after the game, although he says his players are still together and ready for battle.
“We are facing a great fight, but you can see how they are trying and their spirit,” Arteta said.
“Without conceding much we lost the game. We reacted well to the goal and we dominated the game, we created quite a few chances. We hit the bar, I think luck is not on our side.
“The guys are fighting, upset, together,” said Arteta, who thinks they should score more goals with the opportunities they are creating in games.
However, his words would seem to go against an incident on the court during the game, which saw David Luiz lose his cool when Mohamed Elneny passed the ball to him instead of looking to move the ball forward.
The Gunners did not have a number of key players, such as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Thomas Partey, but they have struggled to score goals overall this season.
So far they have only scored 12 of their 14 games, and only Burnley, West Brom and Sheffield United have scored fewer times.
Meanwhile, Everton are flying high, now up to second place in the Premier League thanks to their recent streak of form.
