Some 320 of the 413 acres of rice cultivation belonging to the northern regional president of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Ibrahim Mobila, have been consumed by fire.
The incident occurred in a farming community in the Gonja district of the northeast Savannah region one day before the NDC rally in Tamale on Wednesday.
The fire did not affect neighboring agricultural lands.
Speaking to the media, Alhaji Mobila noted that the fire destroyed at least 85% of the farm before some members of the Kujere community put out the flames.
According to him, although he suspects arson, he did not report the matter to the police.
Instead, he would rather cast curses on his suspect and the arsonist’s family.
“That person mentioned to me before when we were sowing, that nobody has been able to cultivate (on the land) but I have come to do it.
“I left the person who is the IGP in the world to God, I am not referring to the police IGP … I am denouncing the person to God to punish him, his mother and his brothers,” he said.
However, he praised the efforts of the Kujere community to put out the fire even in his absence.
“The townspeople have done very well, about 85% burned but at least I have about 15% of which I can recover a siege for next year,” he added.
