The Government has provided a temporary place for members of the Kantamanto Merchants Association after last Tuesday’s fire that destroyed part of the Kantamanto market.
A statement signed and issued by the Minister of Railway Development, Mr. Joe Ghartey, on Friday, December 18, 2020, said that the Government, in consultation with the Ministry of Railway Development, agreed to allow traders to use the station parking lot train from Accra. .
He said a government delegation, chaired by the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and including Mr. Ghartey, the Minister of the Interior, Ambrose Dery; and representatives from the Accra Metropolitan Assembly and the National Disaster Management Organization, met with executives from the Kantamanto Merchants Association at Jubilee House, to discuss the way forward after the fire incident.
He said the meeting agreed that traders should use the Accra train station car park for business activities during this Christmas season and the new year.
“Being a peak commercial period, this intervention aims to help alleviate the difficult situation of the members of the Association,” said the statement.
