Majority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu has advised Members of Parliament (MP) to strengthen their personal security from now until the new Parliament takes office on January 7, 2021.

He said it was important for members to make the necessary security arrangements through the House security team for their personal protection.

“Although there are rumors and whispers flooding our space, I don’t believe rumors … but you will never know what someone is thinking, people these days are getting very devilish.”

The advice was given by Mr. Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu during the presentation of the Trade Statement for the seventh week ending Tuesday, December 22, 2020.

Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Senior Foreign Affairs Member and MP for North Tongu, in a question in the room, requested that the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the Electoral Security Working Group appear before Parliament to respond to the electoral security challenges and the lives that had been lost before the House rose on Tuesday.

Mr. Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, responding to Mr. Ablakwa’s request, said House leaders would consult on the matter.

He said the House was scheduled to meet on Monday, December 21, 2020. House sessions may be extended beyond 2:00 pm as stipulated in Order 40 (2). This is to allow the completion of scheduled deals for each day of the week under consideration.

He said the House was expected to take a break for Christmas on Tuesday, December 22, 2020, and meet again on Monday, January 4, 2021 to close the business of the Seventh Parliament.
