The people of the Dagbon Traditional Area voted overwhelmingly for the ruling New Patriotic Party (PNP) in the 2020 general election.

The NPP won nine of the 18 parliamentary seats in the North Region, most of them in the Dagbon Traditional Area.

These are Yendi, Mion, Nantong, Tolon, Gushiegu, Karaga, Tatale-Sanguli, and Zabzugu in the Dagbon Kingdom and the Bimbila constituency in the Nanung Traditional Area.

President-elect Nana Akufo-Addo’s votes increased by a satisfactory margin compared to the 2016 polls.

This explains why a group calling itself Dagbon Youth for Peace is requesting more ministerial cabinet posts for Dagombas in the next government.

According to the group’s president, Mohammed Nyaba, Dagombas really showed his gratitude to the government of Nana Akufo-Addo for the restoration of peace and unity in the Kingdom of Dagbon.

He commended the Minister of Business Development, Dr. Ibrahim Mohammed Awal for his stellar performance in the Kingdom of Dagbon, culminating in the resounding victory of the PNP in the area.

He recalled the construction of the Mion Palace, providing resources to Yaa-Naa, Yoo-Naa and other initiatives implemented by the Minister that served as a game changer.

Mohammed Nyaba congratulated the president-elect, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and urged him to do more for the Kingdom of Dagbon.
