The South Ketu branch of the Democratic National Congress took to the streets today to protest against what they describe as unfair treatment imposed on voters by the Election Commission in the district.

According to protesters, some voters were turned away from polling stations on polling day because their names were not found on the Voter Registry even though they had their voter identification cards.

Meanwhile, Richard Ahiagba of the Danquah Institute was allowed to vote despite not having his name on the Register, a situation that the NDC has called unfair.

In an interview with the NDC regional secretary, James Gunu said the protest was to record his disgust at the unfair treatment and ‘theft’ verdict of the people.

According to him, the NDC presidential candidate John Mahama had won the 2020 presidential elections, therefore any other statement by the EC was just a mockery of the country’s democracy.

“We came and submitted a petition to the municipal official of EC to refer it to the Regional Director, EC to the president of the Electoral Commission because even we are aware that thousands of people from Ketu South did not get their name in the registry on election day. so that they can exercise their right to vote.

“So the benefit of democracy is that the people freely choose their leaders, and if we have exercised our right to vote and voted overwhelmingly for President Mahama, we don’t want anyone to make fun of, do nonsense about the democracy we are practicing. . By manipulating the elections, you are doing a nonsense of democracy that we all cherish. “

He added that the NDC will continue to demonstrate in various constituencies in the Volta region until the Election Commission corrects the mistakes it said it made in the 2020 general election and announces John Dramani Mahama as the winner of the election.

“We have made the demonstration here, on Saturday we are in Keta, on Monday we are in Agotime Zorpi, on Wednesday we will be in Ho Central and it will continue until the will of the people is established.

“We are not going to allow anyone, born of women, to fool around with democracy, pour gasoline into this country and light it with matches. We won’t allow that, ”he said.
