The former Blues coach, who delivered the league and cup success during his time at Stamford Bridge, hopes a man who follows in his footsteps will prosper.
Frank Lampard is capable of becoming “one of the best managers in the world,” says former Chelsea boss Antonio Conte.
The Blues turned to a familiar face for help during the summer of 2019 after seeing Maurizio Sarri return to his homeland with Juventus.
An Italian had succeeded another at Stamford Bridge a year before that change, and Conte ushered in the outings when Sarri was drafted.
The current Inter coach was less than impressed by being unceremoniously abandoned, with a longstanding legal dispute.
Conte had achieved a Premier League title win and FA Cup success during his stay in West London, with Chelsea rediscovering a spark that had been lost during José Mourinho’s second term with the club.
Lampard is charged with the task of keeping the Blues in contention for high honors, with a difficult situation that has been inherited when an icon from his playing days returned to the Bridge.
Chelsea had been stung with a transfer ban, forcing them to place considerable faith in local stars, but that approach has served them well and encouraged them for the future.
Conte believes Lampard will thrive on a demanding post, counting Sky Sports from a man following in his footsteps: “I think he’s doing a very good job, Frank.
“This is his second experience after Derby County, so it is not easy being the coach of a superior team.
“I think he has the skills and the ability to become one of the best managers in the world. You have to keep working this way and I wish you the best for the future. “
Conte’s silver hunt at Chelsea was aided by his decision to change the formation during his debut campaign to 3-4-3, with that tactical adjustment that produced an instant reversal in fortune when the Blues embarked on a streak of 13 successive victories that led them a long way to the glory of the title.
Explaining that call, Conte said: “I think it was a crucial moment for me and my team.
“We lost against Arsenal, but in the previous game we also lost against Liverpool. Usually when you’re in a top club and have two losses in a row, this is not an easy time for you and the club.

“But it was a crucial moment because I decided to change the system and play 3-4-3 or 3-4-2-1 with Eden Hazard, Willian or Pedro behind Diego Costa, and three behind. I think it was an important moment and we set the pace for our title at that time.
“The coach must be a tailor and try to find the right suit for his team.
“After two months working with the players, I decided to change the formation and put them in the best situation to exploit their quality. I think I did this and that’s why we won the title and made it to the final in the FA Cup. ”
